The Fort Stockton Panthers dropped their district opener, to rival Pecos by a score of 4-2. It was a closely contested game Tuesday night at Eagle Field in Pecos with everything going right down to the wire. The Eagles went up early with some timely hitting in the second inning. Combining for 4 hits in the frame including 2 doubles and a triple the Eagles were up 3-0 at the end of two inning of play. The Panthers scratched a run in the top of the 3rd and again in the top of the 5th to cut the lead to 3-2. Pecos added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th after a throwing error turned a single into a double and another single drove that run across the plate. The Panthers left the tying run at the plate in the top of the 7th closing out the game.
Panther hurler, Ed Prieto, pitched a gem going the distance allowing 3 ER on 6 hits and striking out 3. At the plate senior Brian Gonzales led the way with 2 hits and 2 stolen bases.
