FORT STOCKTON, TEXAS (Feb. 7, 2020)— The Prowlers defeated Andrews tonight in a nail biter by a score of 54-52. Andrews tied the game on free throws with 11 seconds left. The Prowlers pushed the ball down the floor and with 3 seconds left Rebecca Rodriguez hit a running floater. Time ran out on Andrews as they tried to inbound the ball. The Prowlers maturity and resilience won the game for them.
Led by Katie Salmon, 20 points, the team refused to quit after being down 12-7 in the first quarter. Rebecca Rodriguez and Jocelyn Lujan, 9 points each continued their stellar senior seasons and contributed excellent guard play and clutch shooting throughout the game. Alyana Dominguez, 10 points, Kylie Ruiz, 2 points, and Katie Villarreal were tasked with containing the excellent post play from Andrews. They did an excellent job.
It was fitting for a senior to make the game winning shot in a close game on Senior night. The Prowlers honored a excellent class of seniors tonight. These young ladies, Kathlynn Salmon, Rebecca Rodriguez, Jocelyn Lujan, Dania Mendoza and Alexi Rivera have been part of teams that have made the playoffs three years in a row. These young ladies have the Prowlers sitting securely in second place in district and we are thankful to them for all they have done for this team, school and community.
The Prowlers’ record now moves to 5-2 in district play and 16-15 overall. Records around the district are as follows: Seminole 7-0, Fort Stockton 5-2, Andrews 4-3, Monahans 2-5 and Pecos 0-8.
The Prowlers will visit the Monahans Lady Lobos on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m.
