Panthers Powerlifting Regional Championships

The Fort Stockton Panther Powerlifting team made a trip to Sundown, Texas to compete in the Region 1 Division 2 Powerlifting Championships on Friday, March 13. 11 out of the 19 Panthers who qualified lifted and represented Fort Stockton tremendously. As a team the Panthers finished in 4th right behind Dumas but put up a great fight.

For the Panthers individual finishers were;

Senior Andrick Ramirez in the 114 pound weight class finished 2nd with a combined total of 815 pounds. With the second place finish Andrick became a STATE QUALIFIER!

Freshman Andrian Valdez in the 114 pound weight class finished 7th with a combined total of 640 pounds.

Sophomore Kendrick Porras in the 123 pound weight class finished 1st with a combined total of 950 pounds. With the first place finish Kendrick became a STATE QUALIFIER! Kendrick also won the outstanding deadlifter award on the small platform deadlifting 420 pounds.

Freshman Caison Burrus in the 123 pound weight class finished 8th with a combined total of 725 pounds. Caison fought through a tough injury and put some excellent numbers up on the board. Lots of promise for this young man in the future.

Senior Juan Salgado in the 148 pound weight class finished 1st with a combined total of 1240 pounds. With the first place finish Juan became a STATE QUALIFIER! Juan also came home with the Outstanding Lifter award for the small platform as well as the OutstandingBench Presser award bench pressing a NEW regional record of 335 pounds. Tremendous job by this young man finishing his senior season going out in style.

Junior Jaylee Ibarra in the 148 pound weight class finished 10th with a combined total of 1050 pounds.

Senior Clayton Foster in the 181 pound weight class Bombed Out on the bench press making him unable to finish the meet and solidifying a place. This young man gave great effort and lost it on a few minor technicalities.

Junior Edgar Flores in the 220 pound weight class finished 11th with a combined total of 1225 pounds.

Junior Memphis Alvarado in the 275 pound weight class finished 10th with a combined total of 1185 pounds.

Senior Jonathan Gomez in the Super Heavyweight class finished 7th with a combined total of 1290 pounds. This young man came back from ACL surgery giving his absolute best effort! Tremendous heart show by this young man and what a great senior season!

Sophomore Luis Mendoza in the Super Heavyweight class finished 10th with a combined total of 1070 pounds.

The boys powerlifting state championships are still under question with the current COVID-19 Virus. As we get updates we will update the athletic website so keep checking to see when that date will be! Again BIG CONGRATS to those that qualified for state and have the opportunity to represent Fort Stockton and Fort Stockton ISD at the highest level possible!
