Exciting overtime victory puts sub varsity Prowler squad at 2-1 in district play

FORT STOCKTON, TEXAS (Jan. 12, 2021)- The Prowler sub varsity team earned their second district victory in nail-biting fashion. At the end of regulation, the Prowlers had the game all tied up with Greenwood. With an additional four minutes of overtime play, the Prowlers were able to capitalize on their hard work in practice and shut down the Rangerettes 33-30.
In the first quarter, the Prowlers held the lead and outscored Greenwood 8-6. The second quarter saw the first change of the lead with the Prowlers trailing by two points. At halftime, the Prowlers were able to regroup and make necessary adjustments to their game plan, which resulted in the Prowlers up 21-20 in the third. The fourth quarter was a battleground and both teams fought until the final buzzer of the game.
In overtime, the Prowlers relied on the experience of the starting five to guide the team to victory. Nayeli Ramos was the team’s leading scorer with 16 points in the win. Arissa Gonzalez recorded six points. Estrella Aguilar and Aryanna Gonzalez both had four points in the win. Rounding out the scoring was Jaylynn Muniz with two points and Janean Gonzalez with one point.
“I am proud of this group of kids,” Coach Sera Quiroga Ramirez stated. “These kids work hard each and every day in practice and it’s starting to pay off. I’m proud to be a part of a team/program that is bigger than themselves. My team played selfless basketball and now we know just how good we can be, if we continue to do the little things...right.”
The Prowlers are hitting the road on Saturday, Jan. 16. Fort Stockton will play in Andrews at 5 p.m.
