The Panthers traveled to Del Rio on Friday 8/20 to finish up their fall camp with a 3 way scrimmage between the 4A Fort Stockton Panthers, the 5A Eagle Pass Winn Mavericks, and the 6A Del Rio Rams.
The scrimmage was a good one for the Panthers playing Winn to a tie and downing Del Rio 2-1 in the controlled part of the scrimmage.
In the live quarter vs. each, the Panthers also proved up to the challenge. First up was Winn where the Panthers finished with a 13-0 one quarter performance. The Panthers struggled to get a stop early but a 99 yard pick six by safety Dominic Aguilar put the Panthers up 6-0. Fort Stockton was only allowed one offensive drive in the quarter but made quick work of the opportunity. The drive totaled 65 yards and ended on a 6 yard TD run by Corbin Luna. The PAT was good and the session ended with FS up 13-0.
The Del Rio quarter was a battle back and forth. Stellar play by the starting defense allowed Del Rio only one first down on its first two drives. The Panthers moved the ball well offensively but penalties stalled out their first two drives across mid field. Del Rio scored late in the quarter and the scrimmage ended with a 6-0 Del Rio lead.
The Panthers open up the regular season on Friday, August 27th at El Paso Bowie. The game time is 7:30 pm CST, 6:30 pm MST.
