Fort Stockton, Texas (Sept. 28, 2021)-- The Fort Stockton Prowler Volleyball program hosted their first district home matches of the season on Tuesday night. The stands were packed and filled with an array of "neon lights" for the Prowler's Neon Night and an impressive representation of Fort Stockton / Pecos County were also in attendance to be recognized prior to the varsity game. Although the Prowlers had a gallery of support, all three teams fell to the Seminole Maidens.
The JV squad came out with a fire to win in the first set defeating the Maidens 25-22. That desire to win was soon challenged in the second and third sets where the Prowlers fell to the Maidens. Scores for those sets were 18-25 and 25-20.
Offensive efforts for the Prowlers were shared with all front row hitters. A shared responsibility of running the JV offense was placed on Freshman Mia Garcia and Freshman Adamari Renteria. Garcia recorded 4 kills, 2 digs, 1 block and 1 ace. Freshman Abriel Villarreal added 3 digs, 2 kills and 1 ace. Junior Ashlynn Marquez recorded 3 digs and 2 kills. Junior Angie Aguirre added 2 kills and 1 block. Junior JazLynn Pacheco had 1 kill and 1 block, while Junior Katheryn Mendoza recorded 1 kill and 2 blocks.
Defensively the Prowlers relied on Juniors Arissa Gonzalez who tallied 15 digs and Melissa Villarreal with 10 digs. Gonzalez also added 2 aces and 1 kill, while Villarreal served 1 ace. Junior Sabrina Cook-Pineda also added 4 digs and 1 ace. Renteria tallied 3 digs.
Coach Ramirez stated, "It's tough to lose, but it's even harder to lose at home. These athletes are putting in the work every day and they have been showing their success on the court. We just need to get over this hump and great things will begin to happen. I believe that we are one of the top teams in district play. We just need to get all of our working pieces to work together at the same time, so that we are able to showcase our talents."
Fort Stockton Volleyball is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 2 at district foe Greenwood High School. Game times are 11 a.m. / 11 a.m. / 12 p.m. If you are able to attend, the Prowlers would love to have your support.
