Monahans, Texas (Jan. 7, 2022)- Fort Stockton’s Girls Basketball program headed to Monahans to open up district play. The JV team secured a 31-29 victory over their district foe the Monahans Lady Loboes.
Yvette Lopez led the Prowlers with 13 points and 2 blocks. Dmya Vaughn and Estrella Aguilar added 5 points each. Aubrey Jones tallied four points. Janean Gonzalez and Mayrene Bernal rounded out the scoring with two points.
Defensively the Prowlers showcased their dominance. Mayrene Bernal was an asset on the boards with five recorded to her name. Katheryn Mendoza added four rebounds. Vaughn also added four rebounds, while Aguilar added three. Wrapping up the rebounding were Gonzalez, Liz Bislar and Yadira Hernandez with one rebound each.
Coach Sera Ramirez stated, “It’s a great day everyday to be a Prowler, but it’s even better when you open up district with a WIN! I’m proud of these girls and their efforts. They show up each day demanding excellence of themselves, their teammates and most importantly their coaches.”
The Prowler Basketball program will host Seminole High School on Thursday, Jan. 11. Games are slated for 4:30 p.m. Freshmen / 4:30 p.m. JV / 6 p.m. Varsity.
