The Panthers loaded up early Saturday morning setting sights on becoming back to back champs at the Monahans Sandhills Powerlifting Invitational. They were able to hold off the competition and bring home the championship with a total team score of 41 points. Closely behind were both Andrews and Big Spring who each had 40 team points. The Panthers were led by some outstanding performances earning them eight individual medals. Those medals included three first place, three second place, one third place, one fourth place. A couple outstanding performances for the Panthers were junior Jose "Pollo" Hernandez who set a couple of big time personal records both in squat and deadlift. Along with junior Justin "Joker" Sanchez who hit an impressive 325 pound bench press. The Panthers Assistant Coach Jhett Norman stated "it was a blast watching these young men compete and representing Fort Stockton in such a great way!" The Panther powerlifting team will be off this coming week but will be super busy the next, sending out two teams, one going to Alpine and another to Andrews to compete in their powerlifting invitationals that will be held on Saturday January 29th.
